Master tech swore by ether spray, but it cost me a rebuild
Old timer at the shop near Tulsa told me to hit a cold 6.0 with ether every time it wouldn't fire. Said he'd done it for years. Tried it on a 2006 F-250 last November, and it lit off hard, spun a bearing within 40 miles. Glow plugs were the real issue, but the ether hammered it too fast. He still says it's fine, just bad luck. Has anyone else had a shop veteran's shortcut bite them, or am I missing something about how they used it back in the day?

Probably fifteen guys in that shop have used ether on cold 6.0s without a problem. Sounds more like a bad bearing that was already on its way out. Either way, he's not paying for your rebuild, so maybe stop taking his advice.
