Old man Johnson taught me to blip the throttle on downshifts back in 2002. I see these young guys just grinding gears now and it drives me nuts.
He ran a shop out of his barn in Ohio and insisted that a proper rev match saves your synchros. Do they even teach double clutching in school anymore lol?

Did your old man have a sign on the wall too? Mine had a beat up cardboard one that said "clutch is your friend, learn to use it" and he'd wave at it every time a kid came in. I swear half the young guys today think a transmission is just a magic box that always works.

@simonbell my dad had a faded yellow sign right above the workbench that said "lefty loosey righty tighty" with an arrow. He'd tap it every time someone came in with a stripped bolt. I feel you on the clutch thing, my buddy's kid burned one out in like 6 months and blamed the car. Sometimes I think they just assume magic happens under the hood.
