Overheard a foreman say 'just send it' about a cracked block last Thursday
I was grabbing parts at the shop in Bakersfield and heard this guy on the phone telling his crew to run a 6.7 Cummins with a hairline crack between cylinders 3 and 4. Said they'd 'send a prayer with it' instead of pulling the motor. Has anyone actually tried to band-aid a crack like that or is this guy just asking for a blowout on the Grapevine?

That "send a prayer with it" line is wreckless. A hairline between 3 and 4 on a 6.7 is practically begging to let go under load, especially climbing that Grapevine grade with a trailer behind it. Did he at least say if they were going to try pinning it or filling the crack with anything, or are they just gonna cross their fingers?

Actually played both sides on this before. Ran a 6.7 with a hairline crack in the block about 8 years ago, used some of that cold weld stuff and it held for another 60k miles before we finally swapped it. Sometimes you gamble on a rig that's not worth a full rebuild and it pays off, you know? But the Grapevine with a load behind it would make me nervous too, have you seen what happens when one of those lets go at speed?
