Remember when you could just trust the parts guy?
Got a call for a 6.0 Powerstroke with a no-start. Kid at the counter swore up and down this new reman HPOP was the fix. Dropped $850 on it. Three hours of labor later, same problem. Turned out to be a $40 IPR valve. Felt like a real sucker. That was two years ago and I still think about it. Anyone got a good supplier they actually trust these days?

Honestly, has anyone ever asked to see the actual testing data on those reman units? I mean, the kid probably just read the screen that said "common fix". The real issue is they get a core back, slap some new seals in it, and call it good without checking the internal wear. Maybe the pump was bad too, but how would we ever know? It just gets boxed up and sent to the next guy. Makes you wonder if half the "new" part failures are just the last guy's problem.

So did you ever get any money back on that HPOP, or was it just a total loss? That's the kind of mistake that makes you triple-check everything now. Hard to trust a diagnosis that comes from over the counter after that.
