Spent 6 hours with a $40 bore scope before I found the real issue
My 2008 F-250 was blowing white smoke and losing coolant somewhere. I chased a bad head gasket for a full weekend, bought a $40 bore scope from Harbor Freight and went poking around cylinders. Turns out it was a cracked EGR cooler, not the gasket at all. The scope paid for itself on that one find. I guess my question is, how many of you keep a bore scope handy on the truck or in the shop? I always figured they were for engine teardowns but this thing saved me from pulling heads for no reason.
