Spent a whole day chasing a phantom coolant leak on a 6.7 Powerstroke

Honestly, it was the stupid plastic coolant filter housing on a 2019 F-250. The leak was so small and steam cleaned itself off the block, so I couldn't see it. I finally found it by pressurizing the system and using a mirror on a stick. Has anyone else had one of those housings fail under 100k miles?

Ugh, that sounds like a special kind of frustrating. Those plastic housings are such a weak point (and a pain to get to). Good call on the mirror trick, that's clever for finding a sneaky leak like that.

Yeah, the "steam cleaned itself off the block" part is exactly why those leaks are so evil. I used to think it was just people complaining, but then my buddy's 2020 did the same thing at like 85k. Totally agree with @ivan_fisher99 about them being a weak point. It's wild that such a critical part is just plastic that gets brittle. We ended up replacing the whole housing with an aftermarket aluminum one, because doing that job twice seemed like a nightmare.

Aluminum ones can crack from heat cycles too though.
