Warning: spent $200 on a top of the line fuel injector cleaner kit

Tried that fancy fuel injector cleaning kit from a Snap-On truck guy last month on a 6.7 Powerstroke that was running rough. Hooked it up, followed every step, and two days later the customer called saying the truck was smoking worse than before. What's your go to method when injectors are acting up without dropping a pile of cash?

richard_wells59 said "Italian tune up" and honestly I read a writeup from a diesel mechanic on another forum who swears by that method plus a can of Hot Shot's EDT every other tank. He claimed the heavy highway miles helps burn off the carbon that builds up on the tips, especially on the 6.7s. I've been doing that on my own truck and the idle smoothed right out after a couple tanks, no fancy tools needed.

Hotshot secret in a can and a good old fashioned Italian tune up (heavy highway miles) usually clears them out better than those expensive kits. Save your money for the actual replacement if they're already too far gone.
