I went with a Wacom tablet instead of an iPad Pro for my art setup

Everyone in my art group kept saying iPad Pro was the way to go for portability and apps. I grabbed a Wacom Intuos for $80 on sale and hooked it to my old laptop. The pressure sensitivity feels way better for line work, and I don't have to deal with a glass screen. Took me about a week to get used to drawing while looking at the monitor, but now I'm cranking out sketches faster than before. Anyone else skip the iPad hype and stick with a regular tablet?

That $80 Wacom deal was a steal, good call skipping the hype.

It's like that with a lot of stuff now. Everyone jumps on whatever's newest and most expensive, forgetting that old gear that's just as good works fine. My buddy spent $400 on a fancy drawing pad for his phone and barely uses it, while I'm over here with a ten year old Surface Pro and a cheap stylus cranking out comic pages. People get blinded by the whole "you have to have the latest thing" push from ads and influencers. Sometimes the cheaper tool with a little learning curve ends up being the one you actually stick with.
