Just realized my layers were causing my file to crash every single time

I spent 6 hours yesterday trying to figure out why my 300 DPI piece kept freezing Photoshop. Turned out I had 47 hidden layers with high-res textures that were eating all my RAM. Has anyone else had a file suddenly balloon to 2GB without noticing?

Used to think layers were just about organization and didn't matter much. 47 hidden texture layers later and I'm a total convert to cleaning those out early.

47 hidden layers is wild, I bet that thing was screaming for mercy. @parkerkim you're totally right, I used to think layers were harmless until my 2GB file took 20 minutes to save. Now I flatten texture layers I'm not actively tweaking (or at least keep them under 10). Honestly, half the time I don't even need those hidden layers, it's just digital hoarding at that point.
