Just realized the 'empty space' critique was right after 8 months of ignoring it
Someone on a thread here told me my pieces had too much clutter and I brushed it off. Then I tried removing like 30% of the extra details from one piece last Tuesday and it honestly made the focal point pop way more. Anyone else get a critique they hated but turned out to be the best advice?

And honestly I had the same thing happen with mixing, someone told me my drums were drowning out everything else and I got all defensive about it for like six months. Then I finally pulled the overheads down by a few db and suddenly the whole song had room to breathe, felt like a total idiot. Funny how the stuff that stings the most is usually the stuff you needed to hear the hardest.
