My friend's art went from flat to amazing in just 6 months after she learned about layer blending modes

She showed me a piece from last fall and one from last week, and the difference is crazy. The old one looked kinda plain, like everything was just pasted on top. She said she spent a month just messing with 'Overlay' and 'Multiply' in Procreate on her iPad. Now her shadows and light look real, and the colors pop way more. What's the one tool or trick that made the biggest jump in quality for your digital art?

Hold on, wait. You're telling me you can actually trace a shape with the lasso tool? I've been doing everything freehand like a sucker for years, thinking that was the only way to get clean lines. Just tried it in Procreate after reading this, spent twenty minutes making a perfect circle for a moon in my sky, felt like I was cheating.
