My layer mask vanish act took 2 weekends to figure out

I spent two full weekends trying to figure out why my layer masks in Photoshop kept disappearing whenever I hit save and reopen. Turns out I was accidentally toggling the mask visibility with a keyboard shortcut I didn't know existed, has anyone else lost hours to a random hotkey like that?

I saw a YouTube video a while back where a guy lost an entire client project because the duplicate layer shortcut got rebound by accident, and it made me realize how dumb it is that Adobe packs so many hidden toggles into the defaults. Photoshop has like a thousand shortcuts and half of them are invisible until you mess something up, and the worst part is the keyboard shortcut editor doesn't tell you what a key does when you press it, you have to go digging. I spent a whole day once thinking my brush tool was broken because I'd accidentally hit the key that switched it to pencil mode, and it looked fine until you zoomed in. The mask visibility thing is slick, it's usually Shift+click on the thumbnail, but if you hit certain modifier combos by accident it just nukes your view. Adobe really needs a better way to warn you when you hit a hidden toggle, or at least a 'what changed' popup when you reopen a file.
