My tablet pen stopped working mid-stroke at a comic con demo

I was at Fan Expo Houston last Saturday doing a live digital portrait demo on my iPad when my Apple Pencil just disconnected out of nowhere. The whole crowd watched me fumble with Bluetooth settings for like 5 minutes while my file sat half finished on screen. Has anyone else dealt with a Bluetooth dropout during a live showcase like that and found a quick fix?

Happened to me at a local art walk once. Crowd just stood there while I tried to reconnect... turns out the dongle in my pocket was loose the whole time. Sometimes it's just that USB port getting bumped.

Are we sure that's all it was though? I've had the dongle thing happen too but more often it's the actual cable or the port on the device itself being finicky. Seems like a loose plug is just the easy answer when really something else might be going on.
