Saw a color palette at the farmers market that changed how I pick colors

I was walking through the Portland farmers market last Saturday and stopped at a flower stall that had 15 different types of dahlias laid out in a gradient. The vendor, this older guy named Rick, told me he arranges them by hue every week just because it looks nice. It hit me that I've been picking digital art palettes based on random inspiration boards online instead of looking at how colors naturally flow in real life. I took photos of all 15 flowers and used them as a base for my latest character design, and it came out way more cohesive than anything I've done in months. Has anyone else found a weird real-world thing that helped their digital color choices?

Funny enough, I actually saw an interview with him a few months back where he said it's not just about looks - the different shades attract different bugs and bees at different times. He claims the deep purple ones bring in certain pollinators while the pale pinks get others. Still seems like a lot of work for 15 varieties every single week though. Does he actually sell them or is this just for his own garden?
