Showdown between high-res brushes and simple pixel tools for retro style art
I spent a week doing a piece with fancy textured Procreate brushes and another with just the basic 4x4 pixel tool in Aseprite. The Procreate one had more detail but the pixel one got way more engagement on the forum. Is there a real argument for keeping it simple in digital art, or does high-res always win for showcase work?

More detail" just means I spent longer being precious about it. My fancy brush work usually just ends up looking like I smeared my screen with butter.

You're acting like "more detail" is some kind of confession or failure. It's just detail, man. You added more information or texture to whatever you were working on. Calling it "precious" makes it sound like you committed a crime.
And the butter smear thing is just you being dramatic. Every artist has bad days where the brush goes wild. That's not a judgment on your skills, that's just a Tuesday.
It's not that serious. Either it works or it doesn't. If you spent too long on something and it came out wrong, that's a learning thing, not a personality flaw. Move on to the next one.
