Spent 4 hours trying to get a custom brush to work right in Procreate

I was trying to make a brush that looked like chalk, but the texture kept coming out muddy. Anyone know a good trick for this?

Oh yeah, the grain blending is key. @elizabetht56 is totally right, I messed with that for ages too. Mine finally worked when I made the brush tip shape way bigger than I thought it needed to be.

My friend had that exact problem (it was so frustrating). She finally got it by turning the grain blending way down, almost to zero.

Wait, @elizabetht56 said turn the grain blending way down? I tried that and my brush just looked like a weird marker, not chalk at all. I had to do the opposite and crank the blend up to like 70% and then mess with the scatter setting. The texture layer I was using was probably the problem, it was some free paper scan that just turned into a gray blob.
