Spent 6 hours on a digital painting yesterday just to delete it this morning

I was so sure the composition was working until I flipped the canvas and realized the lighting was completely wrong, has anyone else wasted a whole day on a piece they ended up hating?

... and honestly, is it really that big of a deal? I mean, sure it stinks to lose six hours of work, but you probably learned something about lighting or composition. I've trashed tons of sketches and paintings over the years and I just move on to the next one. If anything, it just means you got some practice in and you'll probably nail the lighting next time without thinking twice about it.

Six hours of work lost is a big deal if you don't have time to spare, and calling it "just practice" ignores that some people can't just start over on a whim. You trashed sketches but not everyone has the luxury of treating time and materials like they're nothing.
