Vent: Hit 1000 followers and felt like a complete fraud instead of celebrating

I dunno if this is weird or not, but I hit 1000 followers on my art account last week and I didn't even want to post about it. Everyone talks about that number like it's some big milestone, but most of them probably just followed me back from some follow train I did 6 months ago. I've got like 30 pieces up and half of them are sketches I rushed. Meanwhile I see artists with like 200 followers doing work that blows mine out of the water. Anyone else get that weird hollow feeling when you hit a number you're "supposed" to be happy about?

Yeah, that whole "supposed to be happy" thing gets me too. I mean, numbers are just numbers at the end of the day, but everyone acts like they mean something real. The part about artists with 200 followers doing better work really hits home cause I've seen the same thing. Honestly, I think that hollow feeling is just your gut telling you the numbers don't match how you feel about your own stuff. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather have 30 pieces I actually like than 1000 followers from follow trains.

Have you tried just doing the art for YOU for a bit without even looking at the numbers? Blocked out the follower count on my phone for a month once and it helped a ton. The hollow feeling goes away when you stop treating your art like a popularity contest.
