Had to choose between a lawyer or a paper filer for my CA appeal

My first denial came back in March and I couldn't afford both a disability attorney and a medical records service, so I went with the $350 paper filer from Stockton to organize my 400 pages of files. They flagged two missing psychiatrist notes from 2021 that I tracked down myself, and my reconsideration went through in 11 weeks. Did anyone else skip the lawyer route and get approved on their own?
