TIL my mental health records from 2020 sped up my disability claim by 2 months
I applied for CA disability back in February and was honestly expecting to wait 6+ months based on what I read here. But I had a stack of therapy notes from a counselor I saw weekly in 2020 for anxiety and depression, and I submitted those with my initial paperwork. My claim got approved in just 8 weeks - has anyone else seen faster results by including older treatment records?

...and honestly that makes total sense to me. I submitted my own disability paperwork last year and threw in three years of old therapy notes plus a letter from my former therapist just to be safe. Got approved in 10 weeks while everyone else was waiting half a year. I think the system is designed to flag people who have a long term documented history of treatment, not just recent stuff. They want to see that you didn't just start going to appointments last month to game the system. So including those 2020 records probably showed them this was a legit ongoing issue, not something you cooked up for benefits. Definitely smart to dig up anything older you can find, even if it feels irrelevant now.

a long term documented history" might backfire. @cameron763, old notes can hurt you if they show improvement.
