Unpopular opinion: Waiting on a lawyer might be slower than going solo for SSDI
I spent 8 months with a lawyer getting nowhere on my initial claim, then I filed a new one myself and got approved in 4 months with just my medical records and a detailed work history form. Anyone else think the big firms just drag their feet intentionally?

and honestly the whole "its just luck" thing doesnt really hold up when you look at how these firms operate. they have paralegals handling like 100+ cases each, so your paperwork sits in a pile for weeks before anyone even looks at it. meanwhile if you do it yourself youre in control of every step, you can call the SSA directly and ask what they need, you can have your doctor send records the same day you ask. big firms have no incentive to move fast because they get paid out of your backpay anyway, so dragging it out a few more months just increases their cut. a buddy of mine had his lawyer sit on his case for 6 months just to "gather evidence" and then he switched lawyers and the new one got it done in 3 months.
