Almost fried my PS5 because I didn't ground myself

I was swapping the fan in my living room and just went for it without a strap. Got a tiny shock from the board and the whole thing shut off. Has anyone else had a close call like that from static?

Static can build up from your clothes or carpet, not just your hands. A strap is cheap insurance compared to a new console.

Come on, that static shock stuff is way overblown. People have been fixing electronics forever without those silly straps.

Nah, I've taken apart dozens of old consoles and computers without any strap and never had a problem. The whole static shock thing is real but way less common than people make it sound, especially if you just touch something metal first. I'd rather save the money and not worry about it.
