Debate: Is it worth reballing PS3 chips or just go with a reflow?
I used to always go with a reflow for YLOD on my old fat PS3. Heat gun, flux, pray it works for another few months. Did that for about 2 years, got maybe 6 months out of each fix tops. Last year I finally bought a proper stencil and tried reballing the RSX chip. First attempt took me 4 hours and I screwed up two joints. Now I'm wondering if the extra time and risk is worth the longer lifespan. Anyone else switched from reflow to reball and seen a big difference in how long the fix holds?

Ha, sounds about right. My first reball attempt ended with me staring at a solder ball stuck to my tweezers wondering if this was my life now. Honestly, the extra time and cursing was worth it for me - the reballed ones actually lasted years, not months. But yeah, that learning curve's a real kick in the pants.

@reed.eva oh man the tweezers struggle is too real, been there with a ball stuck and a lot of swearing involved.
