I finally figured out why my PS4 kept overheating after multiple repairs

Kept seeing people online saying to use thermal paste on the CPU and call it done. But I noticed my launch PS4 still crashed after swapping paste three times last month. Turns out a lot of folks forget the thermal pads on the RAM chips. They dry out too and cause the system to run hot. Has anyone else fixed their console only to find it still overheats because of those little pads?

Three launch PS4s Ive owned all needed new thermal pads before they stopped crashing, but honestly I think people overhype this whole overheating thing as the main issue. Most of the time its just crappy airflow or dust buildup that a quick clean would fix, not dying RAM pads. Ive seen guys replace pads and paste only to find out their console was sitting inside a tight cabinet with no ventilation. That matters way more than a few dry pads. Thermal paste is the important part for the main chip, the pads on RAM barely generate enough heat to matter unless youre running 12 hour sessions in a sauna. Plus if your system is running fine after paste only, why mess with pads that take extra effort to measure and cut.
