I finally repaired a PS4 by boiling the motherboard

I had a PS4 with the blue light of death sitting in my closet for 6 months. Read online about the APU underfill crack issue and how heat can reflow the solder balls. So I wrapped the board in foil, boiled it in a pot of water for 4 minutes, then let it dry for 2 days. Put it back together and it fired up first try with no issues. Who else has tried weird hacks like this for a dead console?

Three years back I tried the oven trick on an old Xbox 360 and it worked for maybe two weeks before the GPU failed for good. Boiling water gets hot enough to reflow solder but it also risks cracking the board from uneven cooling or trapping moisture under chips. Honestly I would rather spend the 40 bucks on a hot air station than gamble with a pot of water.

Ha, so you boiled it for dinner and it still died? Classic.
