I keep seeing people say you need to replace the whole disc drive for a stuck PS4

I fixed my launch PS4 last week by just cleaning the roller assembly with a cotton swab and some isopropyl, which took maybe 15 minutes total. Everyone online acts like a full swap is the only fix, but most of the time it's just a buildup of dust and skin oils on that little rubber wheel. Has anyone else had luck with a simple clean instead of jumping straight to a new drive?

full swap is the only fix" seems like overkill tbh

Yeah I get where @lilyo30 is coming from, a full swap sounds like a huge hassle. When my system was acting up last year, I just did a clean install of the OS and it fixed like 90% of the weird bugs. Took an afternoon but saved me from buying all new parts. Sometimes the problem is just software getting messy.

@andrew916 I think you're mixing up disc drive stuff with software bugs lol. A clean OS install won't fix a stuck disc physically jamming in the drive. OP's cleaning the roller is the real fix for that specific problem.
