I used to think the 'oven trick' for a PS3 YLOD was total nonsense.

After my third console died, I tried it out of pure frustration. The one I baked at 385 degrees for eight minutes actually lasted another six months before failing again. Has anyone else gotten a decent amount of extra time from this, or is it always just a short-term fix?

Baking it just melts the solder again, which is why it always fails soon after. You're better off with a proper reflow using the right tools.

But it works for a little while.

Wait, you baked it at exactly 385 degrees for exactly eight minutes? That's oddly specific, like you got the instructions from a cookbook for a console instead of a chicken. Turns out my old roommate did the same thing with his Xbox and it worked for a few months too, which still surprises me. Honestly though, if a dead console can come back to life for half a year from a trip to the kitchen, that's pretty wild.
