My buddy roasted my thermal paste application and I'm actually grateful

I've been slapping thermal paste on PS4s for a year now, always did a pea-sized dot in the middle. My buddy watched me re-paste a Slim last week and said "dude, you need to spread that out manually, the chip is bigger than you think." He showed me his method, a thin even layer across the whole heat spreader using a credit card. Tried it on an Xbox One that was hitting 90C, temps dropped to 72C after reassembly. Has anyone else had a similar tip that made a massive difference in cooling?

Pea sized dot has worked fine for me on dozens of consoles.

Yeah @reese_perry6 is totally right, less is way more with thermal paste. I've been using the pea method for years and never had a single overheating issue on any of my builds. People overthink this way too much, just a tiny dot in the center and you're good.
