My old friend's capacitor advice finally made sense after a blown board

Back in March, a buddy who repairs arcade cabinets told me to replace every electrolytic capacitor on my PS3's power supply, not just the bulging ones. I figured he was being overly cautious, so I only swapped out the two that looked bad. Two weeks later, the console shut off during a game and wouldn't power back on. Opened it up and found a third cap had leaked all over the board, killing a trace. His exact words were 'they all age together,' and he was right. Anyone else ignore a simple fix and pay for it with a dead board?

Saw a teardown video where a guy tested old caps from a 360 and nearly all of them were out of spec even though they looked fine. That changed how I look at this stuff. Your buddy's advice is now stuck in my head for any future repairs, cheap insurance compared to chasing burnt traces.
