Overheard a kid at the retro shop say a dreamcast disc drive swap is impossible with basic tools

I did one in 45 minutes with a $5 screwdriver set from Harbor Freight and a youtube video from 2010, has anyone else found a model that actually fights back on the ribbon cable?

Honestly that ribbon cable thing is weird, I've done three Dreamcasts and two of them had the ribbon cable literally glued down with some kind of clear gunk. Took me like ten extra minutes just picking at it with a dental pick before I could even get the disc drive loose. What model number was giving you trouble? I swear the later revisions with the stamped metal shielding are way more annoying than the early ones.

Whoa, wait. Glued down? With clear gunk? I've never seen that on any of the ones I've worked on, and I've probably had my hands on six or seven different models over the years. That sounds like a nightmare. The worst I've dealt with is that stupid foam pad they use on the later VA1 boards, but that at least just peels off. I'm honestly shocked Sega would let that out of the factory, that's just asking for trouble.
