Overheard a repair guy say heat guns ruin original plastic clips, and now I'm rethinking my whole method

I was at a retro game shop last week and heard the owner tell a customer not to use a heat gun on old SNES shells because it makes the clips brittle over time. I've been blasting heat on every stuck joint forever, but he said go slow with isopropyl and patience instead. Anyone else ditch the heat gun after hearing something like that?

Yeah, I melted a GameCube controller clip clean off learning that the hard way.

I read an article a while back about how hot those consoles actually get, and it mentioned the controller ports can fry things if you don't let the system cool down first. Always figured it was a bit of an exaggeration, but your story proves it's a real danger. Good to know to be careful with older hardware like that, especially if you're using third-party cables or adapters. Smart to share that warning, I bet a lot of folks don't realize the heat can do that kind of damage.
