Spring-loaded screwdrivers vs. magnetic tips, no contest on stubborn screws

I spent 45 minutes last Tuesday fighting a stripped Phillips on my Xbox One S shell, then swapped to a magnetic driver and it came out in one twist, but the spring-loaded one kept camming out and mangling the head worse. The magnet holds the bit dead center so you can put real downward force without slipping, which is the whole game on those tight corner screws near the HDMI port. Has anyone else dumped their spring-loaded drivers after trying a good magnetic set, or do you have a trick to keep the tip from wandering?
