Warning: I saw a PS4 at a local repair shop get fried because someone skipped the thermal paste step.

I'm torn between thinking a full teardown for new paste is always needed and just cleaning the fan vents, so what's your take on when a deep clean becomes overkill?

Ever see a console shut down from just dust? I learned the hard way that a full repaste every few years is cheap insurance, because gunked up vents only fix half the problem.

Gunked up vents only fix half the problem" is so true. My buddy had a PS4 that kept crashing and he spent weeks cleaning the fan, but it still shut down in heavy games. He finally repasted it and it ran quiet for another year before he traded it in.

Seriously, @christopherwilliams, how many consoles are actually dying from old paste versus just needing a good dusting?
