Which thermal paste strategy is actually worth it?
I spent $25 on a tube of Arctic MX-6 for my PS4 Pro last month and it dropped my temps by 8 degrees. But my buddy swears by using $5 thermal pads instead of paste for the RAM chips and says paste is a waste. I had to redo the job twice because the first application got air bubbles. So did the premium paste help or did I just get lucky? Has anyone else tried both and seen a real difference on older consoles?

oh man i feel you on this one lmao. i tried the same paste on my xbox one x and saw a solid 10 degree drop on the cpu after a week, but the first time i applied it i totally messed up with the pea method and got bubbles too. i switched to a line across the die and that helped a lot but yeah it was annoying having to clean and repaste. thermal pads for the vram are a must though, i tried using paste there once and it just oozed out and made a mess. premium paste like mx-6 is def worth it for the main chip but dont sleep on the pads for the little parts. you probably didnt get lucky, that stuff is legit.
