Broke my tamper last week, used a tape roll for 5 shots

I stopped at a little coffee spot in Portland called Push x Pull and noticed their barista was using a rubber stopper as a tamper. Seemed wild until my cheap plastic tamper snapped at home on Tuesday. Grabbed a roll of blue painter's tape from the garage and it actually leveled the grounds better than the old one did. Anyone else here use weird household stuff as temp gear when your real tools give out?

Funny story, my cat once stole a wine cork and batted it under the fridge for an hour. Now I just keep a bag of them by the sink for that exact purpose. Works way better than my fancy rubber stoppers ever did.
