Buddy convinced me to try a $15 bottomless portafilter and wow
My friend kept saying the pressurized basket was holding me back so I grabbed a cheap bottomless portafilter off Amazon for like $15. First shot was a mess but after dialing in my grind I started seeing real tiger striping for the first time. It made me realize I was way overextracting before because the cheap basket hid all the channeling. Anyone else find that a simple swap like this changed their whole espresso game?

$15 bottomless portafilter" sounds like the espresso version of buying a used car on Craigslist. Glad it worked out though, now you can see exactly where you're messing up in high definition.

High definition" is right, nothing like seeing your channeling problems in glorious 4K while your $15 gamble dances around like it's possessed. I swear, first shot I pulled with mine I had espresso shooting sideways like a drunk fire hose. Still, you can't beat that price for a solid reality check on your puck prep. At least now when my shots look like a Jackson Pollock painting I know exactly where I went wrong instead of just blaming the machine.
