I used to think pre-ground was fine until my grinder died at 6 AM

Was making my morning latte last Tuesday and my old blade grinder just seized up. Dead. I had a bag of pre-ground sitting there and figured it'd be fine for a few days. First shot was a sour mess that took 45 seconds to pull. Tried adjusting everything but the pre-ground was just too coarse and stale. Who here has salvaged a bag of pre-ground with some trick or did I just learn my lesson the hard way?

Tbh did you try grinding the pre-ground even finer or just run it through a mortar and pestle? I've seen some people claim that works but never tried it myself. Ngl I'd be curious if a quick pulse in a food processor would help at all.

My 45 second sour shot taught me the same lesson.
