My tamping pressure was a total lie for 2 years

I always pressed down as hard as I could on my tamper because that's what I thought you were supposed to do. Last week I got a cheap pressure gauge attachment for $12 and found out I was hitting about 12 pounds, not the 30 I assumed. The shot was channeling like crazy and I just blamed the beans or the grinder every morning. Turns out my wrist angle was off and I was torquing the tamper sideways without realizing it. Has anyone else discovered their tamping was way lighter than they thought, once they actually measured it?
