Serious question, is pre-infusion really worth the hassle on a cheap machine?
I was at a coffee shop in Seattle last week and the barista told me they pre-infuse for 8 seconds before pulling every shot, said it makes a huge difference. Back home on my $200 De'Longhi, I tried holding the button for a slow pre-wet but the pressure just drops off and the shot runs thin. Is that extra step actually doing anything on a budget setup, or is it just a fancy move for pro gear?

My buddy tried the same thing on his Breville and said it just made a mess with barely any difference in taste. Seemed like more of a ritual than anything for his machine.

Lowered my dose a bit and it actually came out cleaner.
