Am I the only one who thinks those cheap vinyl peel-and-stick floor tiles are a total scam?

My buddy kept going on about how easy they were to install. Said it would save me $400 over hiring someone for my 10x12 kitchen. Spent a whole weekend putting them down and they already started curling up at the edges near the dishwasher. Had to rip them all out 3 months later. Has anyone actually had these things last?

Funny you mention heat guns, my cousin used one to take the paint off an old dresser and left it on too long, melted a whole strip of the veneer clean off. Anyway, sounds like you did everything right and those tiles still gave you trouble, which just proves theyre only as good as the day you put them down.

I put cheap peel-and-stick tiles in my Laundry room about 18 months ago and they actually held up fine, but I think a lot depends on the floor prep. I spent almost as long scrubbing and leveling the subfloor as I did laying the tiles. I also used a heat gun gently on the edges after installation and put a heavy object on each corner for a day. Maybe it's just me but the ones I got from a big box store had a pretty thin adhesive layer that probably wouldn't handle a dishwasher leak or any moisture.
