Cracked my bathroom sink trying to unclog the drain with a wire hanger

I was in my tiny rental bathroom in Austin last Tuesday, shoved a bent hanger down the pipe, and the whole porcelain basin split right down the middle, so now I'm patching it with epoxy until I can afford a new one - has anyone else had a DIY fix turn into a bigger mess like that?

My epoxy fix on a similar crack lasted about three months before it started leaking again. How long have you had that patch holding up so far? I only ask because I had to redo mine twice before I gave up and replaced the whole sink.

Wait, three months? That's rough. Mine has been holding for about eight months now with no drips. I did use a two-part marine epoxy though, not the hardware store stuff. Maybe that made the difference, or maybe I just got lucky. What kind did you try that kept failing?
