Everybody says prime before painting but I skipped it on my kitchen cabinets

Everyone online swears you gotta prime MDF cabinets but I just did two coats of behr directly on cleaned ones and its been 8 months with zero chipping or peeling. Anyone else get away with skipping steps or am I just lucky so far?

Haven't you tried sanding MDF instead of priming? A quick scuff with 120 grit before painting can give the paint something to grip without the messy primer step. I've done it on a few projects and it held up fine, though cabinets take more abuse than shelves.

Funny you say that... I once painted a bookshelf without sanding anything and it still looks fine years later.
