Fixed a squeaky floor with a $5 tool instead of calling someone out

I used to just live with squeaky floors for years. Figured it was something you had to hire a handyman for or rip up carpet to fix. Then last month I saw a video about these little screw-in floor repair kits at the hardware store. Picked one up at the Ace in my town for like $5. It has these special screws that break off flush with the floor after you drive them in. I did three spots in my hallway in maybe 20 minutes and the squeaks are completely gone. Has anyone else tried those kits or do you have a better method for quieting an old wood floor?

Drove those suckers in and honestly you barely see them unless you're crawling around looking for them. They snap off below the surface so my stupid mistakes aren't even visible. Just don't over tighten like I did on my first one and you'll be fine.

Oh wow, that's really something. I've been meaning to look into those kits myself. Our house has a few spots in the living room that drive me crazy especially when the grandkids are running around. My question is this - did the screws leave any kind of noticeable mark or hole in the floor? I worry about making it look worse than the squeak did, especially if I ever want to refinish the wood later. I've got an old oak floor that's been painted over so I'm not sure how those screws would hold in something that's already had years of wear and tear on it.
