Had to choose between glue and screws for my kitchen shelves

I was putting up floating shelves in my kitchen last month and couldn't decide if I should use construction adhesive or just screw them into the studs. Ended up going with screws because I figured I could always patch the holes if I moved out. Well, three weeks later one of the shelves started sagging in the middle where I put all my heavy plates. Should I have gone with glue and brackets instead, or did I just space my screws too far apart?

Funny you mention glue and screws, I went through the exact same thing and ended up with shelves that looked like a sad wave. I spaced my screws about 16 inches apart but used drywall anchors instead of hitting studs, which worked great until I loaded them with cast iron pans. Now I have a shelf that's basically a slide for my plates. Probably should've just gone with the glue and brackets from the start.
