Heard a neighbor say they spent $400 on a new deck stain and it peeled in a year

We were chatting over the fence and he was pretty mad about it... said he just slapped it on over the old stuff without cleaning or sanding. It made me think about how many quick fixes I've done that didn't last. I always want to skip the prep work to save an hour or two. Now I'm redoing my own shed door and I spent a full afternoon just getting the old paint off. Has anyone else had a project fail because you rushed the boring first step?

Prep work is the whole game honestly. Skipping it just guarantees you'll do the job twice. Learned that the hard way with a fence last summer.

Wait, you built a whole fence without checking for property lines first, @the_robert?

Remember when my buddy had to move his whole shed?
