My bathroom faucet handle snapped off at 6am this morning

I went to turn on the hot water to shower before work and the handle just broke clean off in my hand. The plastic internal piece had been feeling a little loose for a few weeks but I kept putting off fixing it. Had to use pliers to turn the valve stem just to get enough water to brush my teeth. Now I'm debating between paying a plumber $150 or trying to rebuild the cartridge myself tonight. Anyone have luck fixing a Moen faucet with a broken handle instead of replacing the whole thing?

Did you check if the broken piece might be under a warranty? Moen has a lifetime warranty on their faucets, even for the plastic parts. I had a similar issue a couple years ago, called them up, and they mailed me a whole new cartridge kit for free. Took maybe 10 minutes to swap out with a screwdriver and some pliers. Might save you both the plumber and the headache of rebuilding it blind.

Are you SURE you actually want to mess with rebuilding that cartridge yourself? I had a Moen faucet do the exact same thing and trying to fix it was a NIGHTMARE ended up flooding my bathroom floor because I didn't seat the little rubber o-ring right. Probably worth just paying the plumber $150 and not dealing with the frustration.
