My brother-in-law said my built-in shelves looked 'heavy' and now I can't unsee it
He was over for dinner last night and pointed out that my new oak shelves, which I was really proud of, seemed to crowd the room because I used 1-inch thick boards and a full back panel. I always thought more wood meant better quality, but he suggested trying 3/4-inch stock and maybe open backs to lighten the look. Has anyone else had a project where a simple comment made you want to redo a big part of it?

Oh man, I get that... my whole house is basically built like a tank because I'm scared of wobbly furniture. Now I'm looking at my coffee table like it's a linebacker.
