My dad's old brush taught me more about painting than any roller ever could.
In my early days of DIY, every paint job was done with a simple brush. Even though rollers are the norm now, I firmly believe brushes create a SUPERIOR finish. For instance, when I redid my kitchen cabinets, the brush allowed for even coats without drips. Rollers often leave a texture that I find distracting on flat walls. I know most folks want quick results, but taking time with a brush feels more satisfying. It reminds me of how my grandfather taught me to work with patience. That's why I'll always choose a brush over a roller for important projects.

My kitchen cabinets took three days with a brush.

Three days, @michael_fisher55? That sounds like a vacation I didn't sign up for.

Three days with a brush is wild, but @phoenixh74 has a point about the time. A lot of folks forget how much prep work adds to that clock, like sanding between coats or waiting for things to dry. It can easily turn a one day job into a long weekend project. Using a sprayer might cut the painting time down, but then you're spending hours masking off the whole room.
