My first attempt at a vertical herb garden on the balcony

It takes up less space and looks nice, but watering is tricky. Any tips for easy care?

My balcony used to have one of those. Key word 'used to'. Turns out my talent for watering plants is matched only by my talent for overwatering them, then panicking and underwatering them. The basil turned into a crispy brown sculpture, and the rosemary just gave up and became a twig. Maybe try one of those slow drip bottle things, because clearly I should not be in charge of anything thirstier than a cactus.

Actually, I had the same problem with my patio plants until I started using a cheap moisture meter. It takes the guesswork out of watering because it tells you when the soil is actually dry. My herbs stopped dying once I stopped watering on a schedule and just checked the meter. Now everything stays green without me having to remember. Maybe try something like that instead of relying on guesswork.

Tried one of those self-watering pots with a wick last summer for a patio tomato plant. Watched it grow like crazy for two weeks, then the whole thing just collapsed when the stem turned to mush from constant wetness. Felt so proud before it basically melted.
