My neighbor Bob swears by using baking soda to fix any squeaky floorboard
I tried his trick on three different boards in my hallway and now the one by the bathroom door squeaks twice as loud as before, so has anyone else had a DIY home guru give advice that totally backfired?

My neighbor once told me to use wd40 on a sticking door and it turned the whole frame into a sticky mess that attracted every bit of dust in the house for weeks. Did Bob actually explain why baking soda would work, or did he just say "it always works" without any reasoning behind it?

Baking soda is a mild abrasive, cuts through the grease without making a sticky mess.
